Mountains
It might feel like you’ve officially made it to the middle of nowhere. Rannoch Moor is a remote, wild, unspoiled and beautiful place. In fact, this Highland wilderness is thought to be one of the most deserted landscapes in Europe. But it can actually be reached by train on the West Highland Line which crosses through the moorland. There is so much life here - besides roe and red deer, you’ll also find grouse, curlews and lots of flora and fauna.
The moor is surrounded by some of Scotland’s most mountainous landscapes, including the towering peaks of Glen Coe and mighty Ben Nevis, just a few miles away as the crow flies.
Are the mountains calling you? The first step is choosing which one to conquer.

Pick your peak-
Stag
Deer tend to be serious vocalists and they belch, grunt and bellow their communications, from flirting to hunting calls and warnings of danger.
-
Grass
Listen closely and you can hear more wildlife rustling in and around the loch in between the long grass, including the faint croaks of frogs.
-
Wind
Listen to the whispering wind as it blows through the grass, just one of the many benefits of our changeable weather.
