Coasts

This scene shows Kinnaird Head Castle Lighthouse in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire on the north east coast.

Once a castle built for the Fraser family in the 1500s, Kinnaird Head was made into a lighthouse in 1787 by the Northern Lighthouse Board. Just a short walk away, there is a nearby Museum of Scottish Lighthouses where you can discover some of the lightkeepers’ secrets. From the lighthouse you can watch over the seas, and look for marine life including dolphins, whales and porpoises.

While you’ve been busy listening to the lovely sounds of the sea, all of Scotland’s beaches and islands have been calling to you.

  Seabirds

  The sound captured is a mixture of gannets, gulls, fulmars, kittiwakes and guillemots - all are known to frequent the Troup Head area.

  Lighthouse

  Listen closely and hear the mechanism of the light switching on inside the lighthouse.

  Waves

  Hear the crashing waves onto the rocky shore and the stormy sounds of the North Sea.

  Wind

  Listen to the sound of that crisp northerly breeze. Although it can get a trifle windy, the north east is also known for being one of the sunniest parts of the UK.
